Bungoma hosts Anti Doping Workshop

Kenya Academy of Sports CEO Gordon Oluoch hands over certificate to Magharibi Coaches after completion of five days Sports course.

Bungoma town played host to the region’s first Anti Doping seminar held  on Thursday by the Anti Doping Agency of Kenya in partnership with the  Michezo Afrika Foundation and the Magharibi Michezo Awards Legacy Program.

The  One day seminar brought together School teachers and coaches, Paralympics team coaches and officials , volleyball players drawn from Western Bombers that plays in the national volleyball league , Nzoia Sugar FC, County sports officials, team managers and school principals from sports performing schools in the region.

The Anti Doping clinic was the climax of a one week intense sports administration and leadership course involving 15 youth and community coaches drawn from Bungoma, Busia , Kakamega  and Trans Nzoia Counties.

The five day’s training touched on: First Aid and Injury treatment, nutrition and athletes’ body growth, Sports management, youth academies and player registration, Sports team marketing and branding, annual budgeting and financial management/ accountability.

“This is part of our commitment towards sensitizing and building the capacity of some of the progressive team managers and community coaches who continue to churn out excellent talents in the Magharibi region. Last year we held a basic soccer coaching seminar and we thought it wise to follow that up with crucial sports management skills.”

“These coaches have been taken through important topics that touched on their daily operations with teams and players and we believe they have now been given more impetus and knowledge to transform even more lives through sports.” said Walter Machio who is a founder member of the Magharibi Michezo Awards and also one of the conveners and facilitators of the training.

Also speaking during the final day in Bungoma , Kenya Academy of Sports Chief Executive Officer Gordon Oluoch noted that , “ We appreciate that this part of Kenya plays a crucial role in the production of Kenya’s sports talents be it hockey , basketball, volleyball, soccer , rugby, handball and many others.”He said.

“As the Kenya Academy of Sports, we remain committed to work with organizations that continue to champion the development of skills and we are happy to have partnered with the Magharibi Michezo Awards and Michezo Afrika at this point when we celebrate some of the finest coaches who have now received more knowledge to impact their communities.” Oluoch added.

The 2017 edition of the Magharibi Michezo Awards will be held on 23rd of December in Bungoma town.
