Bayern, Hertha on course for quarters victory in German Cup

17-time German Cup winners, Bayern Munich, should be the favorites against second tier side, VfL Bochum in the quarters of the DFB Pokal. Somewhat, manager Josep Guardiola isn’t taking any chances. Yes, the juggernaut that is Munich are top of the Bundesliga, 22 positions above the second division side, but having narrowly escaped in a 2-1 victory back in the 2011-12 semis, you can understand why.

Bochum will be at home, at the rewirpowerSTADION. The nearly 30,000 capacity stadium will be a cauldron. Not that it will affect the visitors that much. The Bavarians have faced much more hostile environments.

It’s just the treble will be beckoning, a seventh consecutive semifinal appearance awaiting. Having been denied a chance into last season’s finals by Borussia Dortmund, who hammered them 5-2 enroute the final, the record holders will be facing a side that has not conceded a goal in the last four matches across all competitions. That said, Bayern should be too good for the hosts, if the plethora of stars is anything to go by.

Elsewhere, third placed Bundesliga side, Hertha Berlin, should find FC Heidenheim easier to finish off. The 8th placed second tier Bundesliga team, having come off a victory away to fellow league side, Fortuna Dusseldorf, shouldn’t pose much of a problem to the capital side. But surprises do tend to happen.
