Battle lines drawn ahead of StarTimes media challenge

Battle lines are clearly drawn following the conclusion of the draw for the inaugural StarTimes Inter-Media Football Challenge to be held at the Safaricom Stadium, Kasarani, on Saturday 2 April 2016. The challenge will be graced by former Arsenal and Nigeria legend - Nwakwo Kanu.

It will be rivalry renewed for giants Standard and Nation Media, who will battle Group A, arguably the “group of death” with Royal Media and hosts StarTimes.

Radio Africa, drawn first in Group B, will be seeking to avenge their 3-0 defeat at the hands of Capital Group during the final of the recently-concluded Road-to-Anfield tournament held at the same venue as Saturday’s event last month. Online media outlet, Soka and national broadcaster, KBC are also involved in this tricky group.

Pool C will incorporate online media competitors, Goal and 442 Media, alongside Chinese media house Xinhua and a team of independent journalists who have registered as Media Forum.

Kass Media, ATG Media, Media Max and Ghetto Radio are the pool D contenders for the tournament that seeks to bring together sports media practitioners.

StarTimes public relations officer Alex Mwaura said they were looking forward to an exciting event.

“We are all set for the events and the captains are elated to be a part of this. The jerseys and all other facilities needed for the event are already in place with Kenyans eager to see the guest Nwankwo Kanu, who will jet in on Saturday morning,” said Mwaura after the draw attended by all the team captains.

The fixtures will be released on Thursday, the same day teams will submit their final team lists for the day-long event that will have the best three teams pocket cash prices, trophies and gift hampers courtesy of StarTimes. There will be honours for the top-scorer and best goalkeeper, with the most disciplined team also being recognized with a trophy and goodies.
