Avire is still our player, Sofapaka asserts

"Last week, the Egyptian side approached us with their proposal regarding Avire's transfer, we offered our asking but we are not satisfied with their counter offer. It is kind of a ridicule.

Kenyan forward John Avire will have to buy out his contract from Sofapaka FC for the period he has absconded duty. The Kenyan international has been in Egypt for one year with his transfer to Tanta SC remaining in a deadlock as Sofapaka FC president Elly Kalekwa maintains he still belongs to his club.

"Avire is still a Sofapaka player till end of December 2020, after which he has to pay off the part of his contract that he has been away from the club," said Kalekwa.

The club official also intimated that Tanta SC approached Sofapaka last week with a proposal on Avire's move but termed it as contemptous.

"Last week, the Egyptian side approached us with their proposal regarding Avire's transfer, we offered our asking but we are not satisfied with their counter offer. It is kind of a ridicule.

"We were investing in Avire. My club looks for potential and consider age when signing a player and Avire is a talent who's destined for greatness with the right kind of grooming. Whoever were responsible of taking him to Egypt would have done him justice if they had followed proper channels," added Kalekwa.

Despite FIFA's Players' Status Committee ruling in favour of Tanta SC early in the year, the 2009 Kenya Premier League holders have remained adamant that the Harambee Stars striker is still their player. The option for appealing Fifa's PSC's ruling is still on the table for Batoto Ba Mungu.
