Nakuru's Walkers Youth lift the Nairobi International Cup
Walkers youth team from Nakuru are the champions of the inaugural Nairobi International Under 11 youth Cup. The winners of the tournament had to be decided by post match penalties after the two finalists Walkers and Makadara failed to crack each other in regular time.
The two days’ tournament came to a close on Saturday afternoon with spectacular action from the over 200 budding Stars pooled from twelve teams with the main Cup winner -Walkers Youth - taking home the top trophy and 15 pairs of brand new Under armour shin guards courtesy of Michezoafrika.
The second team Makadara Youth got a trophy and a set of brand new uniforms while third and fourth placed Kiambiu and Cheza Afrika took home training Bibs and five soccer balls each. All participating teams went home with awards that included double edged training bibs, soccer balls, training cones, pumps and Nike water bottles.Kiambiu also went home with a set of new uniforms donated by Baylor University.
To qualify for the finals, Walkers walked past Little Rocks from Kibera in Nairobi with a 2-1 win while their finals opponents Makadara beat South B United in post match penalties.
Eastlands Center from Buru Buru lifted the Bowl trophy while Kiambiu took home the Plate title.
Speaking during the awarding ceremony at the Railway club after the finals, Brazilian soccer school coach Godfrey Masolo thanked the tournament organizers for the noble initiative that seeks to tap talent at a tender age of 11 years.Masolo said he has been impressed by the explosive talent witnessed during the two days’ of the championship.
“You were all amazing and we hope this tournament will take a bigger shape next year.” He said.
South B’s Ali Salim a.k.a Aguero was undoubtedly the most valuable player of the tournament as he mesmerized the fans with his spectacular ball dribbling skills and shielding technique. He took home the best player award.
Next year’s edition of the championship will take a national outlook with over 24 teams expected to participate in the 2nd edition before the tournament takes an international regional face in the third edition.
