Oilibya racing team driven by Quentin Mitchell dropped out of last weekend’s national rally first leg outing in Kajiado. However, the team has vowed to bounce back stronger in the next leg set for Voi.

Mitchell suffered his first retirement in three years after clipping a rock and ripping off the wheel of his state-of-the-art Subaru N16 at the end of the 12Km Olepolos stage.

The event witnessed 2008 champion Baldev Chager romp to fashionable victory in his Subaru Impreza N16.Ian Duncan finished second despite going flat while Azar Anwar was third. Reigning national champion Carl Tundo blew his Turbo and crashed out.

“It was devastating. I came to this opener expecting a clean race and podium finish. Unfortunately other things were in store. The important thing is we are safe and ready for the next challenge. I am sure we will come back stronger.” Michell says while adding that

“In rally you came expecting everything, consistency, accidents, pulling out and of course winning. My navigator and I will have to strategize as we ponder our next move.” He said.

The drivers will next head to Voi between February 23rd  and 24th  for the second leg of the national competition.
