2011 Dakar Rally Champion Nasser Al-Attiyah is among the 10 reserves who could take part in the 2013 Kenya Airways East African Safari Classic Rally which is slated for November 21-29.

Course director Surinder Thatthi said the former Dakar winner will be the first choice replacement to the 60 drivers who have confirmed to take part in the 2013 edition.

“Several months to the classic rally and the entry list has reached maximum. However it’s along way to November. If anything happens Al-Attiyah will get the first opportunity.” He said.

Al-Attiyah, 42,  is a Qatari rally driver and sport shooter who won the 2011 Dakar Rally and the Production World Rally Championship (PWRC) in 2006.

He currently competes in the World Rally Championship (WRC) for the Qatar World Rally Team. In shooting, Al-Attiyah won the bronze medal in the men's skeet event at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

“He is likely to add more spice to the classic rally which is growing each year.” Said the director.

The 2013 edition of the rally was officially launched at the Kenya Airways headquarters in Embakasi, Nairobi on Thursday 28th February 2013.
