Reigning Kenya national rally champion, Carl “Flash” Tundo got the going tough in the first round of the 2013 KCB Kenya National Rally Championship in Kajiado over the weekend  where he failed to return his Evo 9 machine to the finish line due to Turbo trouble.

The demanding Kajiado terrain had otherwise thoughts against the expected flamboyant start of the three time Kenyan champion who bowed out on the 44km Corner Baridi stage. Baldev Chager won the opening race in Kajiado.

Tundo, who has rallied under the Dalbit Petroleum banner for the last seven years, last week unveiled his new Menengai Oil Racing colours for the 2013 Kenya National Rally Championship.

He said, “A lot of pressure was on us to deliver last season performance. There is no option but get the results for ourselves and the sponsors. We were in good condition but dropped out due to turbo problems.” He noted

Tundo, who managed 6 out of the 8 rallies last season, said all is not lost as they will have to work harder for the coming events.

“We have to thank ‘Boldy’ for an impressive run in Kajiado. We have to work hard for the upcoming events. All I can say the season has just begun.” He said.

Up next for the drivers is the Voi rally which is scheduled for February 23 and 24 to be organized by the East Africa Safari Rally Limited.
