Former national rally champion Azar Anwar is gearing up for the upcoming 2013 season which starts in Konza and Kajiado on January 27. Anwar of Oilibya racing team in Mitsubishi Evo 8 navigated by pastor Julius Ngugi has made a podium finish in the last two editions of the Kenya national rally championships and he targets a better finish in 2013.The team also won the Eldoret rally in 2011.

“I can say the past season was good to us. We might not have won KNRC overall title but we are proud of what we have achieved .We would like to thank our sponsors Oilibya for their continued support.” He says.

Anwar also won the 2 WD category of the Safari rally and emerged top three in Castrol rally of South Africa.  “We also won the Castrol Rally outright with our prototype Daewoo dubbed “super Cielo”.” He adds.

Off racing, Anwar has pioneered many new vehicle brands and model projects, most of which have been ultra successful. “I was the first to build an FIA spec gp N Daewoo rally car. “ He says.

“And I am currently jointly working on an exciting new and unique project vehicle with a major local vehicle supplier once again and hope to have it running in the first half of this year.” He adds.

Meanwhile Anwar’s team will continue competing with their Evolution machine which won the 2011 Eldoret rally and finished on the KNRC podium 2011 and 2012.

“We are looking forward to a clean rally in 2013.”  He concludes.
