Upper Hill crowned new basketball Champions

Upper Hill High School from Metropolitan are the new Kenya Secondary Schools basketball champions after beating Maseno School from Lake 58-40 in the finals played on Saturday afternoon at the Mangu High School.

This is the first time that Upper Hill has won the national title and therefore will head to Uganda for the East Africa games alongside Maseno. Upper Hill took the first quarter 18-6 then faltered in the 2nd quarter with 8 points against Paul Otula’s side who got 13 points.

In the subsequent quarters,Upper Hill won both with 16 points in the 3rd quarter while Maseno had 7 points while in the last quarter the two teams went neck to neck with Maseno coming on top with 15 points while Upper Hill had 13 points. Joseph Ongoro who has been in outstanding form throughout the tournament gave Upper Hill 22 points while Emmanuel Rajula managed 14 points. Edgar Miheso and Roy Machele each hit 6 points for Maseno.

Speaking to michezoafrika.com after the match,Upper Hill Coach Ronny Owino said that the win came forth due to the hard work.

"We deserved to win and it is because of the hard work that we put in our preparation.”

Owino continued to state that in Uganda they will play their hearts out and he is not worried of the age issue which has been a stinging thorn at the tournament in the past" “the age issue is not a problem for us we shall just go and do our level best,”.
