Upper Hill beats Maseno to top pool A

Upperhill up against Maseno

Upper Hill High school from Metropolitan beat Maseno from Lake 74-43 on Thursday morning in the ongoing KSSSA games at Mangu School to finish at the top of the boy’s pool A.

Upper Hill kicked off the match on a high note taking the 1st quarter 23-10 against Paul Otula’s side who missed numerous chances to get points. The team which participates in the KBF Division One League took the 2nd quarter with 8 point with Maseno coming close with 5 points to put the half time scores at 33-15 in favor of Upper Hill.

In a tight 3rd quarter the two teams drew with 14 points each to put the scores at 47-29 at the end of the quarter but in the last quarter Upper Hill which is coached by Ronnie Owino came out strongly pumping in 26 points against Maseno’s 15 points to take the day.

Francis Muthui gave former champions Maseno 21 points while Joseph Ongoro gave Upper Hill 19 points to make sure they book a spot in the semis.

Speaking after the match Owino who also coaches the Kenya women’s national team said that the match was indeed tough as Maseno was a good team,”Maseno are a good side and they gave us a run for our money but now we are focusing on our next match which is likely to be against the hosts Mangu.”

In the other final Pool A matches that were played on the same day Shimba Hills beat Kapasabet 77-36 winning all the quarters (1st 21-13, 2nd 15-9, 3rd 13-10, 4th 26-4) however the two teams have been eliminated from the competition since Upper Hill and Maseno are the teams proceeding to the semis from the pool.
