Nairobi dominates in day one of schools swimming gala

Nairobi region did well in day one of the ongoing Kenya secondary schools sports association swimming competition domination in day one of the gala held at the Mangu high school.

Rheha Nawab of Nairobi timed 3:03.20 in the girls 200m individual medley ahead of second placed Tracy Josiah of lakeside region in 3:36.11and Elizabeth Thinwa of Aberdares who came third in 3:42.92.

This was the second win for Nawab who had earlier qualified for the 50m backstroke finals after timing 36.53 ahead of schoolmate Vickii Whitehead who came in second in a time of 37.85. Cynthia Awour of Lakeside was in third in a time of 43.70.

 In other events Salim Swalleh topped his heat in the boy’s 100m freestyle. The Mombasa region swimmer has broken three national records in 100m butterfly, 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle, all in last year’s gala. He timed 1:08 in the heats today

 The finals of the gala will be held on Saturday with Mombasa and Nairobi regions expected to cough up stiff competition.
