Airtel unveil 2013 Rising Stars competition

Airtel Kenya on Wednesday morning unveiled the third edition of the annual Rising Stars competition, renewing their partnership with the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association for another four years.

 The 2013 edition of the competition will kick off this July during the KSSSA term B provincial secondary schools finals where the eventual national champions of the tournament will earn a ticket to travel to Lagos Nigeria for a Pan African competition, that will bring together different champions from across the continent.

Some selected players will also get an opportunity to attend an exclusive soccer camp in DRC later in August under the Manchester United Soccer camp initiative. Last year, six students namely: Sammy Meja, Mosoti Osumo,Ahmed Mahfudh, Barbara Syprose,Tatu Jomeka and Melon Mulindi  were lucky to be selected for the Manchester United training camps after the national championships held in Mombasa.

The provincial finals will be held across all provinces between 5th to 22nd July while the national competition will be held in Embu between 6th to 11th August.

 During a press briefing held in Nairobi on Wednesday, Airtel presented 10.5 Million shillings that will go towards supporting this year’s competition.

 Speaking during the briefing, Airtel Brand and Communications director Dick Omondi said, “The Rising Stars program is designed to provide a structured platform for scouts, coaches, football authorities and other partners to tap into a vast pool of upcoming talent and to build strong soccer talent feeder systems for our league and national teams.”
