Tusker FC, after 17 round of matches, perched themselves back at the summit of the KPL table after a 2-1 victory over City Stars in a late fixture played at the City stadium on Sunday. Tusker is now on 33 points and will have KCB to thank for blanking their closest challengers Rangers FC 3-1 after a late offensive in an earlier fixture at the same venue. Rangers FC are now second with KCB comfortable at third position
However, the league is proving to be harder by the day and Tusker cannot afford any slumber since only five points separate the top five teams with Gor Mahia(27) having two matches in hand.
Having gone blunt for months , Dennis Mukaisi and Joseph Emeka both struck for Tusker in the 24th and 66th minutes respectively to secure their team a 2-0 lead. This was Emeka’s first goal this season after a long layoff.Incidentally he had come on for Mukaisi who had to be brought out due to injury.
Tusker twice struck the woodwork with Hillary Echesa missing closely in the 22nd minute and Joseph Emeka’s ferocious strike also crashing off the crossbar in the 56th.
But Tusker survived a late comeback by City Stars who continued preying on the brewers managing to secure a goal 14 minutes from time when John Mark Makwata was brought down in the box by the towering Joseph Shikokoti. Ugandan import Serunkuma made no mistake with the penalty kick despite a slight powerless touch from keeper Boniface in Tusker’s goal.
City Stars had another penalty waved away by the match official in the last five minutes to invite fury from the fans and City Star’s officials.
