The annual KPL Top 8 knockout tournament might be bigger and better this season if the sponsors being lured by the KPL management accept to splash in cash for the tournament.
Speaking to Michezoafrika.com, KPL CEO Jack Oguda says that they are currently engaged in talks with a potential sponsor who might be revealed by the time the tournament is launched next week. Oguda also revealed that the 1 Million shilling prize money and allowances might increase if the sponsorship deal sails through.
“We are tentatively set to launch the tournament next week on Wednesday but that is just a tentative date depending on how the talks with the potential sponsors might go. Though we are yet to talk about the prize money and everything, there are high chances that it might increase from the One million shillings”, Oguda said.
Ulinzi Stars are the holders of the trophy having beaten Western Stima 2-1 in the finals last year and bagging the 1 Million shilling reward.
The teams which will participate in this year’s tournament are;KPL Champs Tusker FC, holders Ulinzi Stars, Sofapaka, Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, Sony Sugar, Rangers FC and Chemelil Sugar.
The draw for the knockout tournament is also expected to be done during the launch.
