KPL side AFC leopard were crowned the new Ashitiva Cup champions after beating Homeboys FC 4-2 on post match- penalties after a barren draw during the regular time in the finals played at the Kakamega High School on Sunday. Ingwe scored four penalties through Amon Muchiri, Jonas Nahimana, Jimmy Bageya and Eric Masika.

AFC leopards roared into the finals after winning their group and beating Makhokho FC 2-0 in the quarter finals and walloping Mautuma FC with the same margin in the semi finals. The final was tight and intense that saw Leopards Etemesi flashed with a red card in the second half after landing two bookable offences.

The tournament held in honor of the late Stanley Ashitiva provided an opportunity for Coach Jan Koops to try out various combinations with a view of coming up with a winning team  as none of the Ingwe new signings disappointed proving to be worthy catches for the Leopard.

“This was a good outing for us. Playing in the many matches has helped the coach identify a few areas that we need to work on before the start of the league. It also gave some youth a chance to interact with the stars at close range and served as big morale booster for their careers.” Said Team manager Bernard Onyango.

The late Ashitiva was a fomer principla of Kakamega high school and a big supporter of football.
