Updated on 22/02/12  |    By DENNIS MACHIO

AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia will open this season’s KPL Top 8 tournament in the first fixture. This was announced after a draw held on Wednesday morning during the launch of the KPL Top 8 tournament at the Hilton Hotel in Nairobi.

Tusker vs. Rangers FC match will be second, Sofapaka vs. Sony Sugar third match while Chemelil vs Ulinzi Stars will be the fourth match.

The tournament has so far not attracted any sponsors and the winner will take home one million shillings in prize money. KPL will cater for all the expenses for teams taking part in the tournament including paying for air travel tickets for teams traveling in from outside Nairobi. All matches will be played at the Nyayo national stadium.

Speaking while launching the tournament KPL CEO Jack Oguda said they foresee greater better competition this season round as teams have become stronger and better prepared.

“We could have wished that Gor Mahia and AFC meet at a later date in the tournament but the draw says otherwise. We expect a great tournament this season especially with the inclusion of the other community club AFC that missed out last season.” Said Oguda.

The dates for kick off will be announced at a later date after looking at the continental fixtures for both Tusker and Gor Mahia who are expected to play their return leg match in their respective fixtures next week.

Oguda also revealed that they are still I talks with potential sponsors but said this will be announced at a later date once the talks are completed.
