2012 KPL TOP 8 to be launched on Wednesday

The 2nd edition of the Kenyan Premier League Top 8 Knockout tournament will be launched on Wednesday morning in Nairobi. The draw will also be conducted during the same function set to kick off at 10:30 AM.

Ulinzi Stars are the inaugural winners of the tournament after edging out Western Stima 2-1 in the 2011 finals. They pocketed one million shillings after lifting the title.

The teams which will participate in this year’s tournament are;KPL Champs Tusker FC, title defenders  Ulinzi Stars, 2009 KPL champions Sofapaka, 2011 FKL Cup champions Gor Mahia, former champions AFC Leopards, Sony Sugar, Rangers FC and Chemelil Sugar.

Finalists Western Stima will miss the tournament after finishing outside the top 8 bracket last season.

“It is a pity we will miss this year’s edition but we wish all the teams all the best and promise to come back for next year’s edition.” Said Western Stima team manager Paul Ochieng who has predicted stiff competition in this year’s tournament.
