The Kenya Hockey league commenced this weekend at the City Park stadium with defending women league champions Telkom Orange having an easy outing against Sliders winning 3-1 on Sunday.

Jackie Mwangi scored twice for the defending champions in the 3rd and 30th minute with Captain Betsy Omalla adding the third in the 37th minute. June Kagongo pulled one back for the Sliders in the 43rd minute but was not enough to stop Telkom’s perfect start to the season.

Telkom Orange who are also the African champions on Friday received a major boost when their sponsors announced renewal of sponsorship worth 7.4 Million shillings.

On Saturday at the same City Park venue, the highly anticipated league opener in the men’s premier league between Strathmore University Gladiators and Park road hockey club had to be postponed due to heavy rains that rendered the pitch unplayable on Saturday evening.

The match only lasted for only seven minutes before umpires called it off to a later date to be communicated.
