Teams gear up for top honors as KUSA league resumes

The Kenya Universities Sports Association (KUSA) Universities’ league action resumed over the weekend at the Kenyatta University grounds in Nairobi. The league comprises of the following disciplines : hockey women and men , volley ball women and men, basket ball women and men  and soccer men.

In volleyball men, hosts KU kicked off their campaign on a losing form falling 3 -0 to a fancied University of Nairobi -UON. UON maintained the same momentum to see off JKUAT and MKU with the same margin of 3-0. The host Kenyatta University –KU- later recaptured their form to overcome Strathmore University with straight sets.

In the most entertaining match played on Sunday, JKUAT came from two sets down to defeat CUEA 3-2.This was a relieve to the Juja boys who had a disappointing outing during the first leg.

Speaking to michezoafrika.com during the matches, volleyball coordinator George Ngure, stated that the competition has attained the best height in the universities league so far compared to the previous series though perennial champions Mount Kenya University –MKU- and Jomo Kenyatta University of science and Technology –JKUAT- registering a dip in performance that was hugely dominated by Kenyatta University –KU- and University of Nairobi –UON over the weekend.

In the ladies competitions, University of Nairobi –UON- continued with their impressive record hammering Daystar University 3-0 while KU punished Catholic University of East Africa - CUEA with 3 straight sets.

In the hockey men, Kenyan hockey power house Strathmore University piped Kenya polytechnic (2-0) while United States International University USIU were held to a barren draw by hosts Kenyatta University.

It was a case of merciless demolition for Multi Media University MMU as they fell to Strathmore University with a 13-0 scoreline.The journalism students had a better performance the following day on Sunday though they fell to University of Nairobi UON by a solitary goal.

Basketball saw defending champions USIU ladies swept over Daystar (48-14), while MMU was beaten by JKUAT (21-11). In men’s category CUEA got a walk over after Kenya Methodist University -KEMU (Nairobi)- failed to turn up for the match, MMU won the close encounter against JKUAT(37-33), CUEA stood up with added authority by edging out Mount Kenya University -MKU (67-56) and African Nazarene University –ANU- flew over KEMU Nrb (58-27)
