Strathmore end Telkom's Unbeaten run

15 time Kenya hockey champions Telkom Orange were on Saturday handed their first defeat of the season after losing to closest challengers Strathmore Scorpions at the Nairobi City Park in a league match.

The loss delayed Telkom's title celebration with Strathmore Closing in. Telkom will however have a match to play against a less fancied Kenyatta on Sunday and also enjoy a good goal aggregate that has Already  guaranteed them title recapture no matter the outcome of the final matches.

In their first leg match, Telkom walloped the students 4-0 but found a totally different determined Students on Saturday .The two rivals also met earlier this year in the finals of the africa club championships in Kampala Uganda with Telkom winning 2-1.

The lone goal on Saturday was scored by Gilly Okumu in the second minute firing home past Ataro in Telkom's goal.

A combination of hard luck,  poor forward line coordination,good defensive play and hurriedness to recover cost the defending champions many chances in front of goal. Jackie Joe,Carole Guchu, Audrey Omaido and Margaret Rotich all repeatedly wasted glorious chances as Strathmore remained more composed defensively to crack the unbeaten Telkom.

The final league matches will be played on Sunday at the City Park.

Kenya Police won the men Premier league race last week after finishing on 28 points same as Kisumu Simba. Police won on goal aggregate strength.
