Kisumu Simba moved to second position on the Hockey premier League standings with a hard fought win over Karate Axiom on Sunday afternoon at the City Park stadium. Dan Onyago’s solo goal in the first half, Bramwel Richodi’s strike in the second half and Zack Aura’s brilliance helped the lakeside team to a crucial win on the day.

For the opening goal, Onyango received a beautiful pass from Nixon Amadi in the 27th minute, rounded one defender before striking past the advancing keeper for the opener. In the second half, Billy Mollah acted provider for Richodi who extended the lead .Aura’s late third from an Onyango short corner sealed victory for Simba to make it six points from their city tour.

Despite the win, Simba players struggled with the pace following the high intensity match against Strathmore University less than 10 hours earlier. Simba defeated Strathmore 5-3 on Saturday evening in their debut match to the 2013 season.

Karate Axiom, a side yet to pocket a point from their opening three matches, dominated the first half as a result having a total of 11 short corners but failed to make meaningful use of the same.

Club captain Dennis Owoka said it was a hard fought win for his side who were struggling from fatigue, "Unlike the convincing win against Strathmore, today we were made to labor for victory. Axiom were the better side who were unlucky not to score.” He admitted.

Owoka was nevertheless happy that his team managed to bag maximum points from their opening matches, "We've had the kind of start to the league we wanted. Our team is great and can build on the victories." he said.

Simba holds second Position with six points and six less of league leaders Kenya Police who have played more matches.
