Parklands hockey club on Sunday kick started their campaign in the men national league with a comfortable 6-1 thrashing of National Youth Service (NYS).

The team that has literally declined promotion on couple of occasions   came from a James Kivole 9th minute goal with response from a Farhat Shah brace in the 15th and 38th minute.Frank Kiyondi too registered a brace in the 22nd and 32nd minute for the team that finished second in the league last season.

Captain Fredrick OKeyo and Owen Oduor scored a goal each to ensure Parklands walked away with a deserved victory.Okeyo has rubbished claims that his team is taking comfort at the lower tier as opposed to playing in the top flight league with other teams.

“We have been branded the unhealthy playing side in the league for declining to play in the premier league. That has been attributed to lack of quorum on the past seasons. This year we are determined to finish top and shame critics.” He noted.

"To play in the top flight league the defender explains a team need over 16 constant players without which a team cannot compete favorably." A thing he explains has hindered the Parklands based team.

“We have cases where we have exactly 11 players on the pitch without substitutes on the bench. This year I feel we have a good number of players therefore our aspiration to finish top and get promoted.” He said

Okeyo said the score line against NYS should have been more than 10 goals going by the countless chances they failed to convert.
