Nairobi Simba roar back to the top

The 1-0 win over United States International University on Sunday announced the comeback of reigning hockey league champions Simba Sports Club. The defending Champions had started the league badly being forced to fight from 3-1 down to play to a hard fought last minute 3-3 draw with Greensharks in their first match of the season.

The win takes the champions to four points same as Wazalendo who have a superior goal difference. Both the top two teams have played two matches won one apiece while sharing the spoils in the other. Wazalendo defeated Karate Axiom 4-0 before drawing 1-1 with Sharks last week.

Strathmore University Gladiators are in fourth place with three points same as Kenya Police with both teams having played a single mathc. USIU’s Gladiators complete the five best teams in the 13 men league table.

Only 2007/2008 Champions Kisumu Simba and Kakamega based Western Jaguars are yet to play their league opening matches as their weekend match was postponed to a later date due to unknown reasons.

In Coast the much anticipated Pwani derby pitting Mombasa Sports Club MSC and Mvita club ended in a barren drawing leaving the two teams with a point each from a solitary match.

 In the men national league, Nakuru Hockey Club had a bumper harvest in their weekend trip to Nairobi, managing to pick maximum points from their two matches. The six points accrued from the Nairobi assignments took them level with league leaders Parkland and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture And Technology.

They began their weekend with a 4-1 win over newcomers Homabay before completing their weekend with a 1-0 win over University of Nairobi. Their counterparts JKUAT failed to move to nine points following their 1-0 loss at the hands of Multimedia university.

The new comers Homabay however had a reason to go back to their lakeside base all smiling as they picked up three points and five goals after fellow debutants Kabarak University failed to show up in the City.

Daystar’s long wait for their maiden season win will have to continue as they were held to 1-1 draw by  Mount Kenya University on Sunday.

The women’s league saw no action but they are expected to be in action as the league continues this weekend.
