Mombasa to have artificial hockey turf

Mombasa County will soon get an artificial hockey turf, governor Joho has assured. The governor was speaking in Mombasa during the on-going Cecafa senior challenge cup hinting that plans are already underway to get the project started as soon as possible.

Joho said he is motivated to develop all forms of sports facilities in his county especially those that have been lagging behind.

“I have talked to relevant officials in the county and we have agreed on the venue to put the turf. It will be important for our teams to play in better facilities.” he said.

“We shall be putting down other structures like a hockey stadium fully equipped with gym and modern changing rooms in the county.” Said the governor who is eyeing to make the county very competitive in all sports.

Currently only City park Stadium in Nairobi has recognized artificial turf which was used to host the 2013 Africa Cup of nations last month.

“We want the count y too to host national and continental events. That is why we are motivated to ensure our projects start early to be on the safe side.” He added.

The governor did not disclose which part of the county the project will be installed.
