Matuga Girls from Kwale County held East Africa Schools’ defending champions Kerugoya Girls from Abadare region to a barren draw as the national secondary school games kicked off in Nakuru on Tuesday morning.

Matuga who qualified after outing former Coast champions St John’s Girls in the Provincial finals early this month were pooled in tough group A with Kerugoya, Kapkolei and Sinyolo.

They took on the regional champions without fear while in the process creating scoring chances which their forwards failed to convert. In another match national champions Kapkolei of Nakuru were handed a surprise 2-0 defeat by Sinyolo in the other group Match played in the morning.

In the boys category former national champions Friends School Kamsinga defeated Maseno 2-0 in a tightly contested match.
