Dedan Kimathi University rallied from behind to share spoils with Wazalendo Youth in an exciting eight goals thriller played at the City Park stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The national men clash was eagerly anticipated as it has always brought excitement and Saturday was not different as the match ended 4 - 4 after 70 minutes.

Dedan were trailing  as early as the fifth minute  with Eric Ochieng giving the youth side a well worked field goal, he doubled the lead for the youth side with his brace of the match two minutes later.

Captain Fredrick Nyaga pulled one back for Kimathi two minutes later to bring the scores to 2-1 just after 10th minutes.

Four minutes later, it was Gideon Kimunge netted one of his two goals of the match with the second one coming in the second period. The youth side took a 3-1 lead at the interval.

Augustine Anyango pulled one back for Kimathi two minutes after the restart and Kimunge completed his double in the 43rd minute from a penalty.

With less than 20 minutes on the counter, Daniel Waweru narrowed the advantage bringing the scores to 3-4. The player was to complete a remarkable comeback for Kimathi with a brace and fourth of the match with only 10 minutes to the end.

The cracker also witnessed Youth captain James Omondi red carded after exchanging bitter words with one of the match umpires.

Omondi could not help but lament on the defensive mistakes that led to his side dropping points even when they seemed to have controled the match. He was quick to praise the opponent for a tough match.

“Dedan is known for their never say die attitude. They threw everyone forward once they were trailing and that paid off as they got themselves into the match and eventually shared the spoils. There was concentration lapse from our part which led to dropping points.” He said

His counterpart Nyaga was not shocked with the outcome saying the match lived up to the expectation of the teams and the crowd, “These are the kind of matches we have come to expect from the two sides. We played well and at one point felt we might go for maximum points. Both sides came prepared for the clash and it surely did not disappoint.” Said the captain.
