The 2012 Kenya Hockey Union League will kick off on the weekend of March 3rd 2012.This is according to the federation officials. However, only clubs who would have complied in time to pay the required registration fees will be considered in the draw and fixtures.
According to the secretary Elyna Shiveka, All teams will be required to pay the mandatory 20,000 shillings registration fees (up from 15,000 last year.)Shiveka said some clubs will be forced to ensure they clear their last year’s arrears before they are allowed back in the league this season.
“This is what was agreed upon during the meeting of all stakeholders in January. Teams need to pay their arrears and also honor this year’s registration. We can’t release any fixtures at this time because we haven’t finished registration but tentatively we anticipate the league will commence on the weekend of 3rd and 4th march.” Said Shiveka.
“Teams in the top flight are supposed to pay ksh,20,000 up from 15,000 in the previous seasons, while those in the national league are supposed to pay, kshs,10,000.” She added.
The Union has also warned that this season there will be strict rules to govern the game and among them, each team that absconds a match without genuine reasons will be liable to a fine of a not less than 30,000 shillings .The team will further be deducted six points from their accumulated tally.
The Federation could not immediately release list of clubs that have already registered but promised to avail the list once they are through with the procedures.
