Telkom celebrate with league trophy

Kenya Police and Telkom Orange were on Sunday handed the winners trophies after they finished top of the 2013 Kenya Hockey league that ended last weekend. The trophy presentation ceremony was held at the City Park.

Police reclaimed the title they had lost to Nairobi Simba in 2012 after finishing ahead of the rest on 28 points from 11 matches. Nairobi Simba finished second with 25 points while Kisumu Simba who were docked points for fielding an ineligible player finished third also with 25 points.

Telkom finished on 45 points in the women’s league while Strathmore Scorpions came second with 39 points.

While speaking during the trophy presentation ceremony, Kenya Hockey Union Chairman Nashon Randiek defended the one leg league format that had been opposed by majority of the teams but promised this could be looked into before the new season begins.

“We had many other tournaments where players got an opportunity to play more matches and therefore the issue of less exposure should not be a point of concern. But I think we will sit down with all stakeholders before the next league kicks off to iron out the weak points for a better future.” He assured.
