The 2012 Kenya Hockey league will be played in a two legged format where clubs will get an opportunity to lay more matches and get the much needed competition. This is expected to start in the 2012 season set for a late February kick off.
Critics have expressed mixed reactions both for and against the league format with some saying the two legged encounter is said to be tiresome since players take part in many matches and can pick injuries in the process. The home and away matches will have also been said to be expensive especially for self supported clubs.
Those of the contrary opinions say that being a premier league, ithe to legged format will give the teams and players more playing time and exposure thus contributing to competitiveness in the league.
Kenya Hockey Union chairman Resham Bains says the union is made of clubs and without their views being taken into consideration then the union will not be acting to the best interest.
It is still unclear whether the league will kick off on the February 18 or 25. This is due to uncertainty resulting from delays by the league clubs to submit their registration fee and the list of participating players in good time to allow the union to draw up the fixtures.
The coaches, team managers and Union officials will be meeting on Saturday 28th at the city park offices to finalize the matters and there is a strong believe that they will draw fixtures for the coming season.
