The City Park Hockey Stadium which will host the September Africa Cup of has been temporarily closed for renovations ahead of the continental championships.

Construction work will start on Wednesday, July 24 after officials from the International Hockey Federation, IHF inspect the facility. All the league matches, starting this weekend will be played at the adjacent Parklands Sports Club.

The major concern will be the poor drainage system at the only standard hockey stadium in country. Several matches have been postponed due to the poor state of the drainage system.

AFHF president Seif Ahmed will lead other delegates to the Kenyan capital where they will have a comprehensive look and assessment of the artificial turf and its surroundings before the world cup qualifying event.

The IHF experts will also test if the lightings are of the right standards to host the Flood light games during the continental games that will also serve as the World Cup qualifier

The winners of the event, both men and women categories, will qualify for the World Cup in hockey, which will be played in The Hague, Netherlands in June 2014.
