Veteran forward Zack Aura has been retained as the Kenyan men hockey team captain for next week’s Africa Cup of Nations to be staged at the City Park. The forward captained the Kenyan team to the 2011 Olympic qualifiers that were held in Zimbabwe. He will be assisted by Kenya Police Captain Richard Birir.

New Zealand based Prajbeet Giddie made it to the final team of three goalkeepers that will be led by James Kayieko of Police and Linus Sang of Greensharks.

Midfielders Oliver Echenje, Leon Magomere, Tony Nyikuri, Sammy Oungo and Felix Okoth  were  dropped from the final team named on Thursday afternoon.

Nairobi Simba’s Davies Wanangwe and George Mutira as expected made the cut and will lead Kenya’s hunt for the important glory with the ever reliable Moses Cheplaiti of Police will lead in attack.

The ladies team will be captained by Telkom Orange defender Besty Omala with Lilian Aura of Strathmore selected to deputize.

Telkom Orange produced the highest number of players.Forward Pauline Naise of USIU-A was among the very few players from other clubs in the final team of 19.

The championships starts on the  26th of September to the 6th of October at the City stadium.

The team will be going Kenya Education management Institute (KEMI) for camping since the initial residential camp that had been set for Kasarani is over booked.
