The 2013 hockey cup of Nations to be held at the City Park Stadium in Nairobi will go on as planned despite the recent  wave of insecurity experienced in the city by the attack at the Westgate Mall. The Westgate siege by armed militia left over 60 people dead and hundreds injured.

However according to government sources on Tuesday morning, the Kenya Defense Force was able to neutralize the terrorists and took control of the building after over three days.

The african championships will run from the 26th September to 6th of October in Nairobi and Kenya Hockey Union KHU Chairman Nashon Randiek has confirmed to Michezoafrika.com that the continental championships will go on as planned.

"The tournament will kick off this coming Thursday as planned. I have been in constant communication with the Africa Hockey Federation AFHF and the International Hockey Federation who said the championships will go on as planned." he said.

The chairman said it is unfortunate that such sad inhumane acts are happening in the nation at this time "Our players are with the affected families and the nation at large. But on the other hand we have to soldier on even in such times because we are stronger. Life has to go on."He said.
