The first round of the African cup of Nations matches will be played on Wednesday the 29th of February and the return leg will be played on the 15th of June 2012. This time around they will be no group stages but a two legged home and away knock out tie and the 14 winners of the first round will join the 16 teams which qualified for 2012 Africa Cup of Nations for the second round.
A draw will later be conducted to pair the teams and the 15 finalists will qualify for the 2013 edition to be held in South Africa.
The second round matches will be played on 7-9 September and return matches on 12-14 October 2012.
Wednesday matches with see the fallen African giants Egypt, Nigeria, Togo, Algeria and Cameroon seek to reclaim their lost glory after failing to qualify for the 2012 edition held in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
