Nairobi Water Queens are the new Kenya Handball Federation League Champions in the ladies category after they beat National Cereals and Produce Board 27-18 on Sunday afternoon at the Nyayo handball court.

Nairobi Water who finished runners up last season dominated the match taking the first half 12-6 with team captain Gladys Chilo scoring 5 goals in the half. Judy Augo scored 4 goals in the half while Brenda Musambia had 3 goals for Cereals.

In the second half of the match Jack Ochieng’s side sealed off the game when they scored 15 goals compared to Cereal’s 12 goals. Chilo who was the match’s top scorer with 10 goals added another 5 goals in the half while Musambia added 2 goals to her tally to have 5 goals at the end of the day.

Speaking to michezoafrika.com after the match Jack Ochieng stated that they had expected to win and it was not a surprise, “we have been training throughout and I was sure that we would win the final match. It has been through hard work that we are the new champions and I am proud of the girls. We shall now shift our focus to the East and Central Championships which eluded us last year.”

Cereals had been the Defending champions for six years in a row before Sunday’s defeat in the hands of Nairobi Water.
