U-20 handball team returns with massive experience

The Kenya U-20 ladies handball team jetted back into the country on Saturday morning after participating in the IHF Continental Phase Trophy hosted in Djibouti where they finished 4th overall.

Speaking to michezoafrika.com after landing, KHF Fixture Secretary Charles “Jaji” Omondi stated that the team’s performance was exemplary despite the team facing difficulties in preparation, “at the time the team was supposed to prepare there was a lot of political tension around so even the assembling of the team was a bit difficult. The duration they had in training was also limited but all in all they performed well.”

Omondi pointed out that endurance was a major factor that affected the team and in the future the technical team would look into this, “you could see that from the subsequent matches after the pool stages endurance let us down but that is an issue that would be looked into by the technical team.”

He concluded by stating that the experience benefited everybody and not the players only, “the coaches saw how things are done out there, our own referees officiated in the finals and in general everybody got something in the end.”
