The Kenya U-20 women’s handball team has stepped up their preparation for the Continental Phase, IHF Trophy slated for the 7th of April in Djibouti.

The team which has been training under the watchful eye of Head Coach Farid Mohammed assisted by Jack Ochieng (Nairobi Water coach) in an unofficial capacity kicked off their training on Monday and the coach is impressed by the current status of the team so far, “In terms of physical fitness, most of the players are fit since they have been training with their clubs. What we are going to focus on right now is working on game situations and drills.”

The team qualified for the tournament last year in March after they won the East and Central Challenge Trophy and with teams like Senegal and Nigeria present in the continental phase of the tournament the Kenyan girls are expected to get stiff competition from their opponents, a fact that Mohammed agrees, “We expect tougher teams this round but I believe we are ready for anything.”

The team is expected to leave the country on the 4th after a number of friendly matches with the local teams.
