The refereeing courses will be running parallel after the actual tournament and unlike the past the tournament will be running simultaneously for both the boys and girls teams.

Omondi who is an IHF Playing Rules Commission Lecturer has been charged with several duties in regards to refereeing at the tournament which include; Nomination of the referees for the tournament matches, implementation of a final test in writing with a ranking list, which is based on the practical lessons and written test and presenting a final report which will recommend about 1-3 couples the IHF will invite to an advanced course during the final round of the IHF Trophy in the continent.

Couples in terms of handball refereeing is when two referees are paired together to officiate a match and in most cases are trained through the different stages together. Kenya’s Simon Ndeto and Geoffery Barasa are among the referees that were selected to attend the course plus officiate in Djibouti.
