Nairobi water in Morocco

Nairobi Water handball club ,‘Queens’, jetted back on Monday morning after participating in the 34th annual Africa Club Championship that was held in Tangier, Morocco from the 14th to the 25th of November.

Nairobi Water was ranked 9th out of ten overall after they beat ABC from Cape Verde to determine the 9th and 10th placed team. In the group matches, they lost to Angola power house Petro Atletico with 46-9 in their first match at the competition.

In the subsequent matches they lost to FAP from Cameroon 20-34 ,lost to winners of the 2012 East and Central Africa Club Championship Heritage from DRC Congo (32-20) who ironically beat them at the finals of the regional tournament (22-35) that was hosted by Kenya. ABO Sport from Congo was the last team that Kenya’s representative faced in the group stages and they were once held off the scores being 20-34.

Charles ‘Jaji’ Omondi the KHF Fixture Secretary applauded the team for their efforts considering it was the first time participating at such a level, “if you look at where Nairobi Water has come from the team has really tried its best putting in mind that was a continental tournament. We as the Kenya Handball Federation are proud of them and we shall continue supporting such efforts.”

Nairobi Water will have a short break before shifting their focus to the KHF 2012/2013 League.
