The Kenya ladies handball team opened their campaign on appositive note with a win against hosts Mozambique in their first match at the ongoing All African Games championship played in Maputo on Thursday evening.
The Kenyan girls were trailing Mozambique 13-10 by half time but came in to a recharged second half to win the match with a small 2 goals margin of (20-22).
In other results of matches played on Thursday, hosts Mozambique men hammered Madagascar 34-20, Algeria outclassed Senegal 31-24 while zone five winners and defending champions Egypt beat Congo 24-15.
The Kenyan men’s handball team will play Angola on Saturday morning while the next match for the Kenyan ladies will be against Cape Verde on Sunday while the men’s team will play against Nigeria the same Sunday afternoon in their second match.
The top two teams in each of the four groups will qualify for the quarter finals to be played on Tuesday 13th September 2011.
