Cereals ready to defend Handball title

The National Cereals and Produce Board, ladies and men’s handball teams are ready and roaring ahead of the Kenya Handball League play-offs set to kick off on Saturday 14th April at the Nyayo National stadium Handball pitch.

According to their coach Victor Siero, both teams that are reigning East and Central Africa Club Champions are banking on the experience that they have already acquired to win the play offs.

Although their training has had some slight problems Siero is not worried, “Majority of our players have gone back to school and this sometimes interferes with our training but I am not worried at all, We have the experience needed” he said.

However, he warned his ladies’ team to watch out on Nairobi Water who at the moment are their greatest rivals. On the same note though, the coach said the men’s team looked safer to defend their title.

“I really don’t see any competition in the men’s side and I am hopeful that we will win all our games. But the ladies need to approach the match with some tactical mentality since Nairobi Water will also come out strong but am confident we will prevail.’’ he added.

Siero who has also turned out for the Kenya national team a number of times added that there was need for corporate sponsors to offer their support by sponsoring teams in the handball league in order to foster competition,

“Most of the teams in the league lack sponsors and if we can have them aboard the standards of handball will really improve in the country. Top teams remain stagnant because they lack competition and this should not be the case.”
Cereals team both ladies and men are also the reigning Kenya Handball League Champions.
