Cereals pip Black Mamba to retain Handball League title

The National Cereals and Produce Board handball head coach Victor Siero has hit out at opposing teams calling on them to work towards improving the standards of the game saying that the Cereals’ men’s team lacks competition in the main league.

Siero was speaking to MichezoAfrika.com after they whitewashed Black Mamba 34 – 23 in the Kenya Handball League play-off finals played on Friday at Nyayo Stadium.

"personally I did not see that as a final. Teams need to step up, we simply lack competition.’’ Siero said.

Cereals who were a favorite on paper as they headed into the finals proved why they are the local league champions and also the East and Central Club champions in a one sided affair. Their main challengers Ulinzi pulled out of the Handball League play offs since majority of their players are engaged in the ‘Operation Linda Nchi’ military operation in Somalia.

This year’s finalists Mamba could not match the pace and power of the grain men and by half time they were trailing Cereals 21 – 11

In the second half Cereals finished off the Kaloleni based side and reclaimed their title with ease.

On the women’s final where the Cereal’s women’s team beat Nairobi water 27 – 26 in a tight match Siero had one comment.

‘’Handball is played on the court and not by mouth. When East and Central Club championships comes, we shall play on the court as we always do”
