Kenya’s Cereals handball teams for both men and women have both defended successfully the East and Central African Handball Club Championships trophies during this year's edition of the competition held at the National Stadium Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania from 10 to 17 December 2011 .
The Cereals Women's team won the title for te second year running after emerging tops against Police of DRC, Magereza of Tanzania and Nairobi Water from Kenya. Cereals beat Magereza in its first match (25-18); before downing Nairobi Water (20-14) and finally overcoming Police DRC (31-19). The Women's category was played on round-robin basis.
In the men’s edition played in league format Cereals lifted the title with a 27-20 win in the finals over Police from DRC.To reach the finals Cereals had overwhelmed Ngome of Tanzania while DRC Police had outdone their Rwandan counterparts –Rwanda Police.
The Cereals Men's team triumph marked an unprecedented, impressive 12 wins on a trot that sees them taking home for good the prestigious regional trophy the fourth time.
Evans Wasike, who was head of delegation of the Cereals teams to Dar, termed the double wins and long term success, the result of hard work and commitment from the players and their officials.
“ We thank the NCPB Management for sponsoring the two teams. Both of which are the current Kenya National League Champions. This is a testimony of hard work and discipline.” He said
