Safaricom sponsors Kenya Open

Kenya Open Golf Limited (KOGL) has received a sponsorship package worth Ksh 3.7million from leading integrated telecommunications provider Safaricom geared towards the Barclays Kenya Open 2014.

The package comprises a Ksh 1m cash sponsorship with a material sponsorship that will cater for a fully kitted media center, complete with dedicated internet connectivity and meals for media covering the tournament.

Kenya Open Golf Limited Chairman Peter Kanyago  formally lauded the sponsorship, saying, “The Barclays Kenya Open and Safaricom are two iconic Kenyan institutions and they have again come together, ensuring that the rest of the world gets first hand information about this great gathering of golf talent. This is an excellent partnership and we express our sincere gratitude for the sponsorship from Safaricom."

Last year’s winner Jordi Garcia Pinto as well as the man he beat to the title, Tim Sluiter, return to Nairobi and fans can expect another duel between these  two individuals who lit up the stage last year. 

Speaking about the Kenyan contingent, Kanyago said, “Kenya will be represented by 22 players at this year’s tournament. 17 have already made the cut with the remaining 5 qualifying from the final round of qualifying taking place at Karen.”

With two weeks to tee off, the tournament is in its final stages of planning. Tickets are now on sale, going for Ksh 500 (daily ticket) and Ksh 1000 (seasonal ticket) and can be obtained from Karen Country Club and Muthaiga Golf Club.
