President Kibaki urges more Kenyans to embrace Sports

Kenya’s president His Excellency Kibaki has urged Kenyans to embrace sports and develop talents from a younger age if they are to compete favorably with the world.

The president, who was speaking at the finals of the Kenya open Golf finals at the Muthaiga golf club on Sunday , said that he enjoyed watching the thrilling finals and said he is looking forward to watch more Kenyans taking part in the game.

“Golf is an exciting sport and we should promote it more in the country, we need more Kenyans to start playing gold other than just being viewers,” said the president

The president said that structures should be put in place to help aspiring young talents to develop their skills from a younger age just like other sports.

“Golf will be an Olympic sport, let us develop our skills and continue cultivating the positive image of Kenya because we are known to be a sporting nation, “He added while challenging golf managers to set up youth structures that will ensure Kenya competes at the 2016 Olympics.

Kenya registered a total of 26 golfers in the tournament, with 22 professionals and 4 armatures of which 6 professionals made it to the cut the best performance.

The overall winner Seve Benson  of England pocketed 30,400 Euros in prize money.
