Otieno lifts NIC Bank Nyanza golf championship

Maurice Otieno from the Nyanza golf club is the overall winner of the NIC Bank Golf day that was staged at the par 70 nine-hole Nyanza Golf club on Saturday in a tournament that was dominated by host golfers.Otieno beat a field of 120 golfers drawn from Nyanza, Mumias, Kakamega, Nandi bears and Kisii to emerge victorious

He was playing handicap 8 and managed 20 Stableford points in the first nine to add with 19 in the second and brought an impressive 39 Stableford points.

His club mate Meeraj Bhayani playing handicap 20 came in second after posting 21 points in the first nine to add with 18 in the second and brought a total of 39 but lost on Countback to Otieno.

Ken Amalemba from Mumias club was the only golfer who managed to litter the Nyanza dominance and came in 3rd after posting 38 stableford points.Amalemba was playing handicap 11 and posted 19 Stableford points in the first nine and added another 19 in the second to his tally.

Fourth came Julius Omollo from Nyanza club who was playing handicap 8 and managed 37 stableford points after posting 19 in the first nine and 18 Stableford points in the second. Patrick Owidh managed 35 points.

Lady winner was Nyanza’s Lynn Owino who was playing handicap 31 and managed 34 Stableford points after posting 18 stableford points in the first nine and 16 in the second.

“Am happy because I just did a post entry, I had traveled and just came in when the tournament had already begun, I requested if I could join and was allowed, little did I know that I was to win” said Lynn.

Guest winner was Nyanza’s George Oricho who was playing handicap 18 and managed 17 in the first nine and 11 in the second to bring a total of 28 Stableford points, Staff winner was T Gitonga who managed 31 points.

1st nine winners was handicap 10 Hezron Wafula from Mumias with 21 points, while the 2nd nine winners went to handicap 18 James Mundia also from Mumias who also managed 21 points.

Nyanza golf’s Shyam Dhokia took Nearest to the pin slot.

NIC banks Head of Business Tim Gitonga, Head of card business Michael Kinuthia, and Kisumu Branch Service Delivery Manager Peter Mutai were all present to offer the presentations to the winners and share a light moment with the golfer’s.
