Kenya Ladies win G and P golf trophy by 14 points

The Kenya Ladies golf team successfully defended the 2011 Gilberson & Page trophy, a triangular test match between Kenya, Zimbabwe and hosts Zambia.  Last played in Nairobi in 2007, Kenya won by 14 points from Zimbabwe  whilst Zambia who were only one point behind after the first match finished third with 19 points. Kenya amassed 47 points, followed by Zimbabwe on 33 and hosts Zambia on 28 points.

First played in 1969, Kenya has never won this trophy outside Kenya and has only notched four previous victories.  This year's team, captained by Christina Andersen, was a combination of youth and experience.  Half of the team were not even born when the event was first played!  "I am so proud of the team", captain Christina said.

KLGU Chairman and team manager, Eunice Mpenda said: "I was captain of the team when we won in 2007, and I am delighted to be lifting the trophy again as Chairman of the Kenya Ladies Golf Union".

The team will play the Zambia Ladies Open this weekend before returning home on Monday, 6 June aboard KQ702 at 4pm.  Kenya Airways were the team travel and kit sponsors.
