KCB East Africa Golf kicks off in Thika

Thika Golf Club will play host to the 2012 KCB East Africa tour opener as the series prepares to tee off in the first week of February. The 2012 series which marks the sixth edition since the tournament’s inception will kick off on 1st through to 4th of February in Thika County before cross cutting into 5 other regions in the country.

50 players have confirmed participation, a raise from 44 last year.

The previous edition saw Anil Shah win the tour finale in Nyali, a win that saw him pocket KSH 400,000. Anil shot one under par 70 for a cumulative total of 2 over par 286 comprising 70, 72, 74 and 70 to claim the Nyali tour title. Other notable players throughout the season included Simon Ngige who won 3 of the tours last year, Ngugi Njuguna as well as Dismas Indiza who finished top in the Order of Merit with 137.5 points to receive the Sh200, 000 bonus.

The KCB East Africa golf tour was 1st held in 2007 as a small Pro-Am series and was sponsored by KCB to only a tune of KSH 950,000 but has gradually increased to KSH 9,000,000 today.

The Thika event will be followed by the second leg to be held at the prestigous Muthaiga Golf Club on the weekend of 29th February to third March.

23rd- 26th Royal Nairobi Golf Club
6th-9th June: Nakuru golf club
