Chaos and accidental shot after AFC beat Gor in Gotv final

Football chaos in Kenya again reared its ugly head in scenes similar to those witnessed two weeks ago during the Kenyan Premier League trophy presentation at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani.

On Sunday, it was Ingwe fan’s turn to invade the pitch and celebrate with players in clear breach of security protocol. The referee’s final whistle provided the cue to the joyous Ingwe fan who poured into  the pitch to celebrate their victory over arch-rivals Gor Mahia.

The act seemed “provocative” to a section Gor fans who retaliated by throwing stones and  bottles to the opposing fans. This prompted the police who were keeping a close vigil to unleash tear gas to disperse the fans from the pitch and the stands.

In the midst of the chaos, a police officer accidentally shot his colleague in the leg. The injured law enforcer was rushed to the hospital.

“Ingwe fans were very provocative in their celebration. Even after invading the pitch they marched to our section to mock us.  To make it worse the police instead of dealing with them decided to throw tear gas at us,” Said an agitated Gor fan.

The incident meant there was no runners up medal presentation to Gor Mahia players who were hurriedly whisked to their dressing room as the chaos and continued.

Ingwe later received their Kshs 2 Million prize money and trophy.
