Heroic salute for retired Kenyan Cricketer Steve Tikolo

Cricket Kenya(CK) has been urged to introduce youth development programmes and further identify suitable grounds to be set aside for the development of the game. Sports Commissioner Gordon Oluoch has urged.

Oluoch made the remarks on saturday night at the Simba Union Club when he led the entire cricket Kenya family in saluting and giving a warm and heroes send-off to Steve Tikolo who announced his official retirement from the glamour sport.

During the colourful farewell dinner marked by pomp and color, speaker after speaker described the retired “All Kenya great cricket master” as a living legend who will be remembered by generations to come.

Oluoch said Kenya was proud to produce the Tikolo's,Odumbe's, Obuya's and Suji's family who have done proud to the country..”This country needs Steve in the management of cricket in the country.We need to introduce youth development programmes.I further urge Steve to ensure through his wise guidance and experience, that cricket flows to the grassroots. I also challenge Cricket administration to look for suitable grounds to be set aside for the development of the game”said Oluoch.

He said the state award commendation given to the retired legend by the head of state recognizes the role he played to the country.Oluoch averred that Tikolo's retirement marks the end of a chapter and the beginning of another new era.

Kenya Judo Association(KJA) secretary Shedrack Maluki said Steve was a pillar of strength and a true inspiration to the youth.'Steve will be missed in the game.We at Judo Association join the entire cricket family in wishing him prosperous retirement”. Said Maluki.

Nairobi Province cricket Association(NPCA) chairman Bipin Vohra caused prolonged laugher when he said while United states boasts of Serena Sisters and Tiger woods,Kenya has Tikolo brothers who have done proud to the country.

Other speakers in the colorful function included Deputy Sports commissioner Maina Kamau,Chairman of the Cricket players Association Isaiah 'Ochido” Odhiambo,Top cricket empire Subhash Modi,Stray Lion cricket club chairman Chidambarah Subramanian,the entire Tikolo family, former
playmates and the entire cricket family.

Later a grand draw was conducted where four lucky winners won several two-nights treat to various resort's.
